Still waiting for some seasonal weather to arrive. We get one nice day then more rain. We'll probably head right into the hot weather from here.
I got a call from a recruiter the other day. We had spoken over a year ago about a search he was doing, and he contacted me for another role. this was the second time that had happened, so I guess the lesson here is to continue to sow your seeds, as you never know when something will come up. Easy for me to say since I am not waiting for that call that never comes. I was going through some old written notes and emails from my job search. each note, email or business card is a reminder of that frustration. Probably a good thing to toss it all out. One thing about that time is that you really find out who your friends are. Not that those who didn't help me in my search weren't friends, but some folks would ask what they could do, they'd ask for a copy of my resume and get it to decision makers, they'd call to see how I was doing, or help with preparation for an interview, or would just be available for lunch if I called. One friend of mine, knowing how rattled I was took me golfing and offered whatever assistance I thought I needed. that offer, and that day of golf was exactly what I needed at that time.

so, if you are in that boat, I hope you are finding some of your friends are like that. If not, find some friends that are.

  1. Yeah, it really sucks when you think someone is your friend and then turns his back on you in the blink of an eye. You are right - in times of crisis and trouble you DO find out who your friends really are.
