August 20...why is that date familiar??? oh right.. my birthday. I completed 61 orbits around the sun yesterday...today I start the 62nd orbit.
so here's a story, and stay with me here. We have been driving on the north shore of Lake Superior on our way to fishing each year since 2002. We pass a restaurant called Betty's Pies each year. and each year we laugh as we drive by, saying we should stop there. So this year, on the way home from our fishing trip, we did.
I was hoping to try their key lime pie. we pulled into a full parking lot and 2 of us pie fans went inside to see what the place looked like. There was a list of pies available for takeout...and key lime was not on the list. so, I got a slice of 5 chocolate pie. Not bad, but not key lime.
Then, 2 days ago, my golf bud/fishing bud/college roomie texted a list of pies from Betty's for the day that included key lime. wtf...they couldn't have key lime pie when we stopped?
fast forward to today, for my 61st birthday, my mom and I had lunch at a nice place on the water. I had lobster, which was very good. My mom gave me a bday card at lunch which was very thoughtful..and unexpected. A really nice time and a wonderful celebration of my bday.
and as we were getting ready to leave, the server comes up to us and says "whose birthday is it? I saw the card on the table. and here is a slice of key lime pie to celebrate". you could have knocked me over with a feather. Honestly, I was floored.
we shared the key lime pie..best key lime pie I ever had. I then told the server of my quest for key lime pie. and how the stars had aligned for me to have my key lime pie.
so, you tell me...did the universe decide I should have key lime pie after not being successful in my key lime quest?
things like that make life worth living.
