A week ago I was sitting here thinking about surgery in the morning.  And tomorrow will be one week post op.  This weekend was painful. but the last 2 days have been better.  I actually hit some golf balls this morning.  Still limping and I should use the crutches more than I do, but it is amazing how quickly you are up and about after surgery.  20 yrs ago I would have been in the hospital for a few days.  Now in and out in 5 hours.  I haven't blogged or looked at my book in awhile.  Time to make a push and get the book illustrated and done.  Today was the last day of work for a young lady in the office.  When I wished her well, she said to keep in touch and she looked forward to buying a copy of the book when it is published.  so there is one copy spoken for.  starting to look at my gear for the fishing trip.  I ordered this years pair of cheap sunglasses and some fishing gear.  Next weekend I will start going th...

I got awakened at 3am today with knee pain.  Got up, took a pill, laid on the couch til 8am, then went to the store.  I think that was a mistake since I had to bend my knee to get behind the wheel.  so, all day was rather painful.  I guess that is to be expected if they put a few holes my knee.   Hopefully tomorrow it hurts less.  and in time it no doubt will feel better.  still planning to play 3 wks from tomorrow.  despite my limping and walking like a peg leg, I made chicken in the smoker which was quite good.  and plenty left for chicken salad, which I love. getting sick of sitting around.  hopefully I can get up and about soon.  now back to watching all the nothing on tv

Thursday, June 21 Post Op

Woke up at 3:30 am, got to the hospital at 5:40, was in recovery at 9:30 and was home at 11 am.  It's amazing they do these operations outpatient now.  It doesn't hurt too bad now, ,but I was told tomorrow it will be painful when the shots wear off.  I have my pain meds, so will rely on them to keep me out of agony. So far so good - the pain due to the meniscus tear seems to be gone.  And of course now I see the folly in not getting it fixed months ago.  but, the best time to get it fixed was months ago.  the second best time to get it fixed was today.  and so I did. I remember years ago I went in for a hernia operation and i was so sure I wasn't going to wake up from the surgery.  Of course I did...or if I didn't, my life has been like the series Lost.  Who can say?  Am I on my own island with ny collection of quirky, unique characters, each of us making our way to the pearly gates?   I am not in the mood to look for a...

tomorrow is the day with the most daylight of the year.  My golf buds are teeing off before 6 am this weekend.  and in a few weeks we start losing tee times.  Happens every year.  I have to get up at 5 am tomorrow to get to the hospital by 6, surgery at 730.  I am looking forward to getting this done so I can once again play basketball and jog.  actually neither of those things since I have done them in 10 yrs and jogging is probably why my knee wore out.  I will settle for walking without a limp. so, ready or not.  I had 2 colonoscopies in the past 2 yrs, but getting cut is a bit different I guess.  but I didn't have to drink that vile stuff that liquifies your insides to prepare.  so - assuming I wake up after the surgery, I will let you know how it went.  I was thinking instead of a dog, I will get a monkey so we can do this together.   He seems to enjoy it.

Very hot weather today.  and my knee is killing me even though I had a cart while golfing yesterday.  I am so glad to be getting my knee scoped on Thursday.  And I can kick myself for putting up with the pain for this long.  I should have had it fixed last winter.  but, the best time to get it fixed was then, the next best time to get it fixed is now.  or Thursday.  I had a nice lunch with my son for Fathers day.  My daughter wasn't feeling great in this heat, and I missed her.  But it was nice to have a good talk, and be father and son for awhile.  Like most father/son or daughter relationships, we don't do it enough.  Lesson learned. the clip below is from an mma site.  A fighter got head kicked and staggered, and some very talented nerd but the video below together.  Maybe you had to see the fight, but I laugh every time I watch this video.  If this creativity was harnessed, imagine what this country could do. ...

Finally some summer weather.  We are golfing at 6:11 tomorrow morning.  Should be cool until the back 9 then the heat hits.  It will be a 2 gatorade round.  From now until mid July you can get a tee time before 6 am, which gets you done by 10, or tee off at 4 pm and finish by dark.  So....still a week away from the longest day of the year.  I should try to golf Wednesday before we start losing a few seconds of daylight per day.  This will be the last round for me for a few weeks.  Having the knee fixed Thursday, and the doc said 6 weeks until golf and I will shoot for playing before the fishing trip.  I got the clearance from the primary doc today, so good to go.  anyway, look at this young mom clapping.  today's post is just because I found this priceless.  tell me you are not laughing at this.

I hadn't planned to write anything today because it would interrupt my evening of doing nothing.  But I did have a lovely dinner with a friend and took a walk, so it is too late to not do nothing (?) anyway, back in 2002 I worked with Steve at PwC,  We got together a few times after that, the last time maybe in 2005.  so, today I was shuffling off the train, limping from the upper level of the train to the lower.  A guy stops to let me in front of him, and I turn to thank him and perhaps tell him about how to have the best day ever....and damn it it wasn't Steve.  He looked exactly the same as he did in 2005, which might be why I recognized him. anyway - cool shit is where you look for it, so look for cool shit.  and to make the situation odder, he told me he had been recently trying to find me by searching online.  all he had to do was search for CoolAsFuck.  I am the first thing that comes up. and I leave you with:

A rare back to back post....because I got up at 430 to golf and saw it was pouring.  So, the golf buds texted that we weren't playing, which is a good idea.  As much as I like to golf, paying good money for a death march is not fun.  So far this is the 4th time I planned to golf and weather prevented it.  In the past few years we haven't got rained out too much. So - it is very early and I am wide awake.  And I put in contacts already so I can't sleep with them in.  Heaven forbid I waste the one dollar that a pair of daily wear contacts costs.  so - 630 am...maybe I will go to wal mart and see what kind of sub-humans shop there at this time of day.  I guess I should go to the health club - not too many options.

As I was driving to the mall to check out the clearance sale at Carson's (skip the sale - it's all picked over crap) I passed an area that had flooding...that area of town got 5 inches of rain overnight.  who knew? since I posted the video of Johnny Rivers singing Summer Rain, enjoy Elvis singing Kentucky Rain.  they don't write em like that anymore.  I just looked up the lyrics to the Breakup song, and did not know there was the em after write. 6:11 tee time tomorrow.  less than 8 hrs from now.  as the saying goes "I'll sleep when I'm dead.   or at work on Monday"  and we are supposed to get rain.  but I don't care - we don't get enough Sundays in a year to not golf if we get a few raindrops. If I get a hole in one tomorrow, I will let you know.

The end of what is easily the best week of my life.  since last week.  I have 2 interviews next week, and one the week after.  With any luck I will leave this job before my end date.  but after my fishing trip.  and I scheduled knee surgery for June 21, so there will be some down time.  as in down on the couch and not downtown.  and to revisit the fudgesicle/acid reflux issue, I was in the store yesterday and they were giving out ice cream.  I took a package of triple chocolate, and I know at some point I will open it and eat half.  and swear I will never eat ice cream again.  until fudgesicles are on sale again.  I ate a large bag of potato chips last night, so I am good with those for a few months.  I am due for a chocolate binge soon as well.  I think I have written of the show Alone before...I was watching tv late last night and saw the first show of the new season was on.....so I watched until 1:30 am.  whi...

I haven't posted for a few days.  I really haven't had an original thought to post.  but now.... I used to really like ice cream.  Nothing is better than Bryers Vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup.  A few years ago I became lactose intollerent, and if I ate ice cream I would get violent acid reflux.  If you ever have been awakened by acid reflux, you know what I mean.  anyway....on Sunday I went food shopping and bought a box of 12 fudgesicles...the good ones...Deans brand... so, I had one.  then another.  then another....and so on.  When I was done I had eaten 7 fudgesicles.  and you can imagine what that would do to my stomach.  I am still trying to decide if it was worth it.  I will probably buy another box next time I go.  I ate the last 2 tonight, and all is calm so far.  except for really bad heartburn.  We have 6 weeks from Friday to go before fishing, and I think 8 weeks left until my job is done...

A wonderful day spent golfing.  played bad, but expected to play bad.  The weather was 35 degrees cooler than when we played last Saturday.  Crazy...if we pay Al Gore enough, maybe global warming   climate change can be reversed, and it will then be 72 degrees everywhere every day. We played a new course today.  Playing a new course is fun - you are not sick of it yet, and you find things about the course that are interestimg and challenging, but if you played it more, you would find those things really annoying and you would have a negative opinion of the course in general, and you would tell yourself you would never play that course again, and you were stupid for playing in the first time.   Seems like a good analogy for something, I just can't think of what that would be.  this young lad looks to be enjoying his pool

dancing dog gifs are mesmerizing.  I never tire of them. It is a beautiful night.  finally.  Golf tomorrow and the weather is supposed to be nice.  I hit every day this week, so hopefully it shows tomorrow.  We are playing a new course and that is always fun.  but once you hole out on 18 you start thinking of how you would play the course next time. I already ate dinner, and took a walk.  I really have to exercise more.  I eat less and still gain weight.  Having this bum knee doesn't help.  I am going to the doc on Thursday and will schedule surgery.  I will miss a few rounds of golf, but will be back in the game after Canada.  I never thought playing golf would become somewhat difficult.  Having a bad knee, and walking 18 is not a good mix.  but a little pain keeps me in touch with my inner self.  and keeping in touch with my inner self makes it the best day ever.  so, therefore, having knee pain mak...
