this turned out to be a less than stellar week to have off work. but, it is good to be off, and good to have a job to go back to...and good that I have 2 more days off before I do go back to work.

I meant to write the other day about the change in funding approach that Obama made....he campaigned in 2008 on not accepting money from PACs...now, of course, he changes his tune and will accept money from PACs. just another example of the duplicity of this guy. August 2011....you can almost see the wolf back by the trees. we sat in a boat and watched that drama unfold for 45 minutes or so...culminating in the wolf eating the sand hill crane's baby. a once in a lifetime thing for an outdoorsman.

It is 5:24 pm, and there is a glimmer of daylight left. We are on the good side of winter, I hope. we'll probably get dumped on a time or two before spring springs.

I had the last 3 days off work. had to use up some days or I would not accrue any more...so, with the weather not great, I sat at the keyboard by the same window that I did when I was unemployed in 2008/2009. just watching the world go by....looking for something of interest on the web...I must say, the feelings of hopelessness are never too far from the surface. I know I have a job to go to, and that is great. But the memory of having nothing to do and going to WalMart at 10 am, or the grocery store mid afternoon comes back pretty quick. I suppose I need to get rid of that mindset...but as my friend Rob said "unemployment is the scar that never heals". and if you have been through it, you know what I am talking about. if you haven't been through it, be thankful for that.

on another note, Channel 2 is doing a story about people pulling in 6 figure pensions, and having another high paying govenrment job. should give me something to write about tomorrow.

I guess getting to the ripe old age of 53 and not having been incinerated by lightening yet will do that to a person.

Interesting link here...rather than actually reform the pension system, Gov Fudd is proposing to move the commitment for the pension costs to the local school district...of course, the local school districts are crying poor...I guess it is ok to award these high, unsustainable pensions...as long as someone else is paying the tab. Of couse, the whole situation starts with the sorry shape of the entire state, and now the cuts that businesses have to make are being made by government. and it is a long way from over.

8:30 am and I am already sick of the super bowl pre-game banter and analysys. and it is 9 hours to kickoff. guess I will have to find something to do for most of the day that does not involve sitting in front of the tv.

I did hear a few news reports over the last few days that the economy had added 246M jobs, and unemployment was now down to 8.6%. BUT.......the attached story presents a dissenting opinion:

the white house has just ceased to count the long term unemployed. the figures they use to bolster their case for a better economic picture include a record reduction of the pool of job seekers. before the November election, look for this administration to cease counting the unemployed althgether...resulting in an unemployment rate of 0.0%.

typical of this administration - if the results don't suit your agenda, just lower the bar. and that is what we continue to do.

tgif...long week. beyond the occasional funny commercial, and the pool squares I bought, I don't have much interest in the super bowl this weekend. such an overdone non-event. it is a football game, albeit an excuse to have a party on a Sunday.

I am at a loss for a concept to write about today. I suppose when my primary focus is writing about the bad and absurd, and when confronted with so much bad and absurd stories, none of them seem any more significant than the other. or perhaps I am still in a rut. who knows.

but the beauty of things is that someone somewhere will do or say something very stupid today. and I will be back in business.

I was looking at the stats on the readers of this blog...are there really readers in russia, india, latvia, etc? or maybe that is just some random hit???? I like to think my wisdom is globally accepted - perhaps I would be seen as a visionary in some other country and would be showered with adoration and riches. or maybe not.

The first month of the new year is here and gone. 8.25% of the year....At my age, the number of months I have left is much less than the months I have been on this earth...so, each 8.25% of a year is a lot...not to be overly morose, but you get my point. time goes too quickly...too soon old and too late smart. that saying makes more sense all the time. but, we are what we are. (today is cliche day).

When you are the governor of a state that is hopelessly in debt, has its credit rating cut to an embarassingly low level, and has taken no action on the pension and debt woes, what do you do???

Fair is fair...report crime the same way in each case. We can take it. A hate crime can be a hate crime if committed by a black...unless you ask the Erik Holder, US Attorney General appointed by our collosal failure in chief. switching gears, I found this pic on my computer. Another one from the first canoe trip in 1982. Quetico National Park - a 100 mile trip in a week. I remember how the guys would always bitch about having to sit still while someone got a camera set up. I went a few years without even bringing a camera. Now, I wish I had photographed much, much more. we packed so light we had to wash clothes during the week (see them hanging in the background?) those were some rough, but really memorable trips. I have a shoebox of pics from the early years that I will have to scan and upload.....to further bore my poor readers....ahh...memories...

the state of the union was what I thought it would be...a long winded campaign speach. All I heard was that Obama wants measures put on his desk for his approval. and he challenges congress to come up with measures that will solve all our problems. wait... I thought when he ran in 2008, he had all these things figured out. hmm..our messiah cannot be just another windbag, can he?

Rahm is recommending to Obama to continue to blame Bush for his inability to do anything during this term. I thought Obama ran on the platform of being a fixer. What has he fixed? What has he done? Now, I will agree that he inherited a mess...but every president can say that. Every president enacts legistlation that will benefit his term. Today's problems did not begin under George Bush...they began decades ago. Our country's desire to take in every poor soul that wants a free ride, or giving aid to any country that asks has led us to spiral out of control. We can no longer be the ATM for the rest of the world.

Mr. Murphy turned 6 yrs old yesterday.

We got Murph when he was a few months old...he had been living in an aquarium in a puppy store for a few months at that point. look at him - why was he not bought by someone when he was on display???...or is this like Shallow Hal, where he only looks like this to me....He really understands everything I say, and knows that everyone but me is a dumbass. actually, like everyone's dog, he answers my tough, lifechaging questions.....anyway, he has now run our house for the last 5 1/2 years or so. What is that in dog years? He's probably at the age where he could collect a pension if he worked for the state of Illinois. I have no doubt that dogs are collecting pensions in this piss puddle (I coined that the other day, so I will use it a bit) known as Illinois. you watch - that will come out...but, I will not sully Murph's big day. He and I are going to have a few beers to celebrate.

Q: How does a dog know it is his birthday?

A: He gets a rawhide bone every time he looks at you, obviously asking for one.

I see that ABC is running a story about Newt Gingrich and his history of marital problems. Now, while Gingrich may have failings as a husband, why does the media feel it necessary to run that story, and not look into why the records of Obama and his wife are sealed...no records from college, no info on their background whatsoever. No investigation into why his SS# would not pass the governments own validity test. Of course, this is how the guy ascended to the office of president - by letting the opposition be hung by their own records. so, the lesson here is to seal your records. Was comical to see the inept white house press spokesman saying Romney should release his tax records, but when asked why Obama did not release his college records, he said to go ask the campaign. what a cop out.

I saw a link on Drudge that the price of gas has doubled since inauguration day. Of course, we did elect a guy that said under his plan, the price of gas would necessarily skyrocket. yesterday he did not sign the bill to build a pipeline from Canada to transport gas derived from oil shale. what has this guy done for this country..besides blaming his failures on Bush. He campaigned on his ability to fix what was wrong with the country...what has he fixed? I drove my son to high school today. Traffic around the school is a mess - cars cutting in everywhere, stopping randomly, kids walking between moving cars. Not a traffic cop to be seen. Just a mile from the high school in the neighborhood, there is always a traffic cop sitting on the side street with a radar gun. One day the guy in the car in front of me got pulled over for doing 3 miles over the limit - I know because I was reading email and had spaced myself a few car lengths behind. I know of someone that got a ticket for a rolling stop. a rolling stop....not far from where the Barney Fife is posted there have been numerous breakins and buglaries. but no police presence to keep that crime in check. that raises no revenue. you should count on more selective enforcement of laws designed to bleed the law abiding middle class without exposing the cops to real criminals. stopping real crime is too hard and will only be attempted after all criminals guilty of rolling stops have been caught.

Midpoint of the month...well, I guess that would be noon tomorrow, but you know what I mean.

Sunday...not working today for the first time in a few weeks....I remember last year at this time being stuck in a rut like I am now...long days, and your only goal is to get through the day.   Paying for fitness boot camp but not going....having a membership at the health club but not using it. taking a book out from the library and not reading it. that's a rut. and I am in one.

there is a guy, Ryan Van Duzer, that was on Out of the Wild. He has a web site and is always involved in some adventure related activity - things more engaging than the business world. He recently rode his bike across the country, and documented it on his site. He rode his bike across the country....I haven't walked around the block in ages.... In the video on the site, he asks people that he met what they love about life. I was up early today and watched the clip, and honestly could not answer that question. Soooo...the goal is to re-energize. Sure, we booked our fishing trip yesterday, but that is 8 months from now. Golf season is 3 months off... gotta find some spark today.  I realize that a guy whose job is essentially to document a bike ride across the county, or to do other exciting jobs of his choosing is likely to have a different outlook than a working stiff, but you get my point.

A few weeks ago, I wrote that I had filled up my gas tank for the first time in at least 6 months. That day, gas was $3.19 per gallon. today I bought gas and it was $3.65 per gallon. first posting of the new year. I was so busy doing nothing I did not post for the last few days. But, back at the keyboard today.
But, nothing has changed...the new year brings many new taxes and fees. No reductions in taxes or fees of any kind. A 3% increase in the amounts the pension hogs receive, because, of course, the investments the pension funds have never go down, and did not lose in value like our 401Ks did. what a crock.

so - nothing has changed. I suppose the hope for the New Year is something we have to find for ourselves, and delude ourselves into thinking that things will get better in 2012. Sure - and the Bigfoot show will get some really good footage of an actual Bigfoot.

but, happy new year. a few good college football games on today. and everyone's diet starts today and will last until Thursday at which time it will be deemed unnecessary.

Back to work today...

Three years ago I wrote of garbage day after Christmas, and lamented that I had no more bags than usual. we didn't have enough presents to generate more garbage than usual, which was depressing....but today, I had 2 bags of balled up wrapping paper. No one in the family gets those big, oversize presents anymore, so the 2 bags of paper was a good indicator that we did have enough presents....materialistic people that we are....

Three years...in the scheme of things, not a really long time, but it is 3 years...

I looked back to the beginning of this blog, and I started writing Dec 17, 2008. Three years ago. Many words, many foul moods ago...I had been unemployed for over 3 months, and would have 3 more months before getting a job. What has changed in that time? the economy sucks worse now that it did then. Neighbors that had jobs when I did not are now unemployed. Housing values are down. my 401k is 30% less than it was then. the national debt is up. the Illinois pension problem is spiraling out of control with no sign of getting fixed. the state income tax is 66% more than it was then. the cost of tolls on the Illinois tollway is soon to go up by 90%. one crooked Illinois governor is in jail, and another is in office. we watched one failure of a president leave office, and a colossal failure of epic proportions take office and ruin the country.

in other words, we are swirling lower in the toilet than we were 3 years ago. and with that, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

so this is how it ends...

I used to pride myself on being a decent basketball player. up until a few years ago, I still could run the court somewhat well - I knew my limitations and played within them. but the last few years showed me that I had best give up playing for my own good...of course, I was still better than my son, and would be for a long time, right??

so, I went to the health club yesterday with my son, who plays on the sophmore bball team. He said he was going to shoot a bit and lift weights..so I thought I would show him a few things...maybe bully him a bit, show him who was boss, trash talk him, then go sit in the whirlpool. so, we shot a bit. and then the inevitable - we started covering one another. I figured I was in for an easy time of it...but he waved an elbow under my nose like a tough player would do, and fired a jumper in the hoop. Ok - that was a fluke. I hit one over him. he took it back at me. an effortless double pump, and the ball swished. at that point, I knew. He was now better than i was - way better, and probably had reached that point long ago. I'd probably hurt myself if I tried to prove otherwise.. No "Great Santini" driveway game to pass the torch was needed to show who was top dog. I accepted my fate and walked out of the gym to lift weights. A fat, slow, middle aged guy has no business in the gym when the young fast guys are playing basketball. I was punked. and I am now done playing bball..for good. something I had done for a long time, and spent many thousand hours in many gyms perfecting my now-woeful fat middle aged white guy game.

but, I am pretty sure I can beat my son at golf - because he has no interest in playing golf. I'll probalby take him out in April and open up a can of whoop ass on the course.....that will fix everything...So there.

the prepaid college tuition program is showing a huge underfunding balance (sound familiar?). What is it about Illinois that has every fund targeted as an opportunity to pillage by those able to get their hands on the money. Of course, the article mentions poor performance by the investments, but can there be any doubt that multiple hogs have fed at this trough, as they have with every other fund in this state? When does the audit of this program begin? When do the trials start? when do crooks go to jail - after all, Blago is going to jail....now what about the other 500 crooked politicians in this state? to send one guy to jail when hundreds are equally as guilty is an insult to us all.

Note to Illinois decision makers....they have these people called auditors and actuaries..you use them to help avoid problems like these. Or do you not want to know what is causing these huge underfunding problems? heyyy....

File this one under "tell me something I didn't know". the average family lost $21k in the last 6 months in the form of housing value, 401k, etc. Looking at my own situation, I only wish I had lost only $21k...let's look back a few years....I lost over 30% of my 401k in the meltdown - in a one month period, and continue to hemmorage money each time I get a statement. I earn significantly less than I did 10 years ago. my house has not appreciated. by no means am I alone, however, while the middle class is losing everything, and being taxed to death, the politicians who are allowed to trade on insider infomation that we cannot seem to be doing quite well. the pensioneers that are pulling in outrageous payments, and getting a 3% increase each year....they didn't lose $21k...It's nice that the middle class can be a buffer so the rich don't have to suffer.

The sentencing for Gov. Blago is starting today. Speculation has him getting 10 to 20 years in prison. That is fine - if he broke the law, he should pay. But given the cesspool that is Illinois politics, are we to surmise that Blago is the only one going to jail that should be going to jail? With all the corruption at every level of Illinois government, this is the one and only guy getting jail time? What a complete joke.

With the announcement that Obama is going to Hawaii on 12/17 for a 17 day vacation, you now see the supporters commenting that Bush and Reagan took more time off, etc. But, are times not different? this guy has called us lazy, has gone around the globe apologizing for what we Americans have done to the rest of the world. He has told us to eat our peas. He has told us it makes no sense to take a vacation if we have bills to pay. then he schedules yet another vacation which will cost us taxpayers tens of millions of dollars. what a hypocrite.

November sure went by quickly. I hope we can say the same at the end of January. I was at Wal Mart this morning - kind of sad how Christmas is reduced to aisles full of plastic toys. Gotta be more to the holiday than that. or maybe not - so many things that were significant when I was a kid are now considered passe, and should not be customs any more. Those douchebags that resent the rest of us saying Merry Christmas are so indicative that the country took a wrong turn at some point.

The market seemed to like whatever progress was made on the European debt yesterday. What progress was made, I cannot say.

The Norman Rockwell Christmas is no more...somewhere along the line the holiday went from a time of family and God, to a time of gorging on cheaply made Chinese goods.
Proves my theory - the govt is only too happy to keep the masses supplied with food and alcohol in mass quantities...and cheap consumer goods. If the masses are kept fat, drunk and laden with brightly colored stuff, they will be distracted from fully understanding that the state is broke, the country is broke, and one by one, European countries are folding. my advice - learn how to speak Mandarin.

Up too early. I had forgotten what crap there is on tv at 4 am. The extended commercials for seat covers and Chris Angel magic kits....do people actually buy this stuff? I suppose if saps will leave home to line up at 10 pm on Thanksgiving night to buy a tv, they will buy anything.
I was watching Jay Leno (what a no talent hack) who had on some woman I had no clue, and she mentioned the unfair treatment that Michelle Bachmann was getting from the media...and of course Leno disputed that, mentioning the lampooning he had done of John Kerry, and the current repulican male candidates...but no mention of making fun of our current colossal failure, Obama. no - making fun of Obama would be an admission that we have all been had...which we all have been. how in the world would anyone want 4 more years of this failure?
time to unseal someone elses divorce records, or the make fun of Donald Trump, or dredge up dirt on Herman Cain...but, perish the thought of any discussion of birth records or invalid Social security numbers...those advocating that are kooks, right?

Thanksgiving. I was at WalMart this morning early, and the aisles were full of Christmas toys, etc. Not much respect given to Thanksgiving. Which is somewhat strange since Thanksgiving should be the one holiday that transcends race, religion, etc. Unless, of course, you are a native American, then you'd probably not really feel too good about Thanksgiving. Native Americans got screwed out of their country, then a few hunder years later, Americans got screwed out of their country...we have come full circle.

But, on that topic, I suppose the list of things to be thankful for far outweighs the list of things you can bitch about. unless you are me - then you can find fault in virtually everything. such is life. but, perhaps I need to lighten up. but what would I write about?

By now you have probably heard of the prison sentence handed down to Tony Rezko for his part in the corruption that is out of control in Illinois. By all accounts, this sentence is a harbinger of things to come for Gov. Blago....

But what of the association of Rezko to our messiah, Obama??? why is the media not digging into this association a bit further? Here is a description of their connection from Wikipedia (it is a bit lengthy, but read the whole article):

Obama instead took a job with the firm of Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland,^[28] which primarily worked on civil rights cases. Thanksgiving week. I have been off work twice - in 2002 and again in 2008. I have this dark memory both times of sending resumes out on Thanksgiving morning....knowing full well that no one would be looking at time for a week if at all....the memories you can't shake....I am sure there are a lot of folks that will be doing that on Thursday.

Played one last round of golf on Saturday, and put the sticks away. it will be a long winter without the bi-weekly round of golf. my game sucked, but it was always nice to get out and walk. now is when you start thinking about where you could live to play more than just 6 months a year.

I especially like the comment about the percentage of people with no retirement savings. I had a lot saved for retirement...then the market tanked and continued to tank. what I have now will pay for maybe a year of retirement. but, of course, the property tax on my house when I retire will probably be more than what is left in my 401k. I am not too big to fail, so no one bailed me out. while the bankers got bonuses for doing nothing, or breaking the law, I saw my hard earned money vaporize....hey, I have an idea...let's make the amount of social security we will collect the same as the government pensions...and let us retire at 52...great idea, huh? the American Dream...available only to illegals and pensioneers.

There are so few stories these days that provide any glimmer of hope for the global depression. if we aren't in one now, we will be soon.

It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is next Thursday. As I have written many times, we can only hope the winter passes as quickly as the fall is passing.

The approval for the liquor tax increase by the county is passing. What the heck, we taxpayers are used to being screwed - what's a bit more taxation? The justificaion given by those approving the tax increases is comical - we are somehow supposed to be at fault for the county tax decrease, so therefore that deficit had to be made up somewhere....how about reducing spending...reducing pensions...my friend told me of going to the county office to contest his parents property tax bill...and was greeted by the county employee with the most intelligent line "who you be?"...this is where our tax dollars are going...who you be.....we pay taxes so brain dead morons who could not care less about helping us can ask us who we be.

I saw a story that the city of chicago is cutting jobs, and has 10,000 less city workers than a decade ago. that is probably good news to the city workers, as there would be more room to sleep in the trucks now.

Well, I played bball one last time last night...a game I used to somewhat good at...time to hang up the shoes. At 53 years old, what used to be taken for granted can no longer be done. plus having about 50 extra pounds on me doesn't help. but enough about me.

One year to the presidential election...at least I think that's right. One can only wonder about the silliness we are about to see. all the empty promises that will be made. the big talk. we were all fooled in 2008 - but then again, we are so far down the tubes that the ability to fix things in one 4 year term, or with one administration is nil. Back in the boom times of the 90s, people were quick to give credit to Ronald Regan...who had left office a decade earlier. I don't recall at the time when Regan was president anyone saying "gee - a decade from now these things he is doing will really be good". Every previous administration had a hand in our situation now. In not flicking off the minute parasite that became big and unremovable. In letting the hogs gorge at the public trough, and letting them get so fat they cannot be pushed away. So, in a manner of speaking, every previous administration played a part in the situation we face today. and I challenge anyone to say they want more of the same. something tells me we have not bottomed out yet....

Chicago, with these laws and hundreds of speeding cameras, will become the speed trap nightmare made famous in countless movies...how many drivers will see the flashing lights come on behind them, and then be subjected to huge fines for infractions they had no idea they committed.

Congestion Tax???? wtf...Mayor Rahhhhmm is proposing some major increases on the tax for parking in the overpriced lots in the open sewer called Chicago. To park to see a play would now cost you over $30. What an effin joke. Add that to the additional surcharge on cab fares, and you now have to bring $100 just to park and get around the loop. October flew by in a heartbeat...I hope January and February go by equally as fast.

The news is full of stories about Herman Cain and the sexual harassment case that he did/didn't have...and the dredging up of the settlement details. And we have seen stories of Rick Perry and illegals...and all skeletons in the closets of all candidates...except Obama. His records are sealed and stay sealed. and the media just lets it go. Obama must be supported by the highest levels of something. for him to get a pass on all he does while the records of others are expected to be out there for all to see. Obama is president because the Tribune sued to unseal the records of Jack Ryan, a senatorial candidate. which led to him dropping out of the race, paving the way for the eventual failure to win the senate seat and begin campaigning for president immediately. no records of his college courses, no feedback on why his social security number does not pass the government's own screen.

Check out this story...someone who pillaged a bank was linked to a loan to Tony Rezko's wife, who bought a parcel of land connected to Obamas property...but no mention of that land being given to Obama...the emperor is wearing no clothes....we've been had, folks.

one last thought...why is it that all these Hollywood types have to dress up in garish costumes for halloween? leave it for the kids. I saw a pic of monumental hosebag, Kim Kardashian, dressed up as some character called Poison Ivy (?).....it would have been more appropriate for her to dress up as a character called Chlymydia....would have not been too much of a stretch, I think.

Halloween...the time change is this weekend...where does the time go?

I get a kick out of reading the snippets from the soon-to-be-published biography of Steve Jobs...the guy is lauded as a visionary and a genius, but comes across to me as a first class asshole. He seemed to revel in his position of power and his ability to bring someone to tears. What a bully and a buttwipe. If he wasn't running a successful company, he would be sued for creating a hostile workplace. We've all worked with that type, and I surmise if we were lucky enough to work with them when they died, you'd feel pretty good about their misfortune and hope that their death was slow and painful. right??? or is it just me...

at any rate, a slow news day. I will have to surf for some good stories, as I am pretty sure there are lots out there...after all, nothing got better over the weekend, did it?

A quick trip to Florida. I am always amazed at the lack of any normal consideration by some travelers. standing on the walking sidewalk...wandering through the terminal then just stopping right in front of you when you are hustling to get to your gate...then on the plane, standing in an aisle, not aware that their ass is right in your face. I remember working with a utility client years ago, when a dollar was still worth 50 cents (not like the current 25 cents) and seeing all these people younger than I making way more that I did. I was told that the utility, by law, takes its expenses, marks them up and uses that to calculate the kilowatt cost to consumers...so, the higher the expenses, the better the profit for them. Now, we are supposed to accept that the power outages of this summer will go away if we let them gouge us just a bit more....what an effin joke.

oh..and no action taken on the pension mess...at least they figured out a way to separate the non-pensioneers from more of our money.

due to the overwhelming success of my Ghost Moose story (in my own mind), here is a parable entitled:

THE WOLVES

In a nice town where wolves were not indigenous, a wolf showed up...then another wolf....then many wolves. The townspeople asked the government to help them get rid of the wolves...the government said "no - we will set out food for the wolves, and make them places to live". the townspeople said "but we don't want wolves around here. they take up space that we townspeople built, and we cannot go there because it is unsafe due to the wolves. the wolves have gotten into our schools, and our kids cannot learn at the right pace because the teachers are too busy dealing with problems caused by the wolves. we do not want wolves around, so please stop feeding them and making places for them to live." The government said no - wolves are ok, and we even want them to vote in your elections. Get used to the wolves, they ain't going anywhere. the townspeople asked for a new bridge to be built, but the money for the bridge was being spent on food for the wolves. People moved out of the town, but they founds wolves in every town out there - wolves had clearly gotten out of hand.

and so the towns everywhere went to shit.

so - substitute the words "illegal aliens" for "wolves". Substitute "America" for "town". get it???

my creativity knows no bounds. I probably could have used a more exciting ending to my parable. but I have a headache today.

- there is now commercial now running on tv where the lady holding a baby answers her door and the gangster sounding guy tells her she owes a lot of dough, but the guy says he is talking to the kid. A good, creative way to say how absurd the pension mess in Illinois is. But, where was the commercial when the system was 25 billion in the hole, 50 billion in the hole, 75 billion in the hole??? If I wrote the commercial it would go something like this:

Lady opens it. Gov Fudd is standing there
Fudd: "I'm an ignorant douchebag. May I ass rape you to the tune of $100 billion, because I am clueless about what to do"

I guess that is why they have creative design agencies write commercials. although mine is more impactful.

- I see that President Obama does not approve of his kids watching the Kardashian reality show. Wow...a colossal failure in elected office disapproves of his kids watching a show about colossal failure hosebags. Well, I believe the taxpayer does not approve of watching their tax dollars being spent on vacations to Spain, Hawaii, Martha's Vineyard, Africa, Vail, for the first lady...all in the last year.

- Chicago is going to tie the increases in water bills to the rate of inflation. sure - we pay more tax, pay more for products, pay more for sales tax on the more expensive products, and the genius mayor wants more. eff him.

- the standardized test results for Illinois high students are at an all time low. wow - that is shocking. I see that the scores for Maine township (where I went) which historically had high standardized test scores are way down too...hmmm...I saw a story 2 days ago that said the percentage of hispanic students in the Maine township high schools is way up....maybe we can get that $275/hr Metra consultant to do a study to find out why the scores are down....the reason must be right in front of us....

Chilly, rainy, gray...mid fall weather.

In my many trips to Canada, I have seen moose up close in the wild a few times. Moose are very majestic, graceful creatures. the emperor of the north, so to speak.

When moose walk through the tall marsh grass, they can pick up ticks. The ticks start about the size of a grain of sand, and attach themselves to the moose, gorging on the blood of the moose. the moose can have hundreds of these parasites feeding off of it, the the ticks grow in size from a grain of sand to the size of a large grape. Over the course of the season, the ticks feed off the moose, causing its fur to fall out, and leaving the moose unprotected from the elements. By winter, the moose succumbs to the ticks, lays down and dies. the process of a moose becoming infected by ticks and dying a slow death is called Ghost Moose.

Our country is a Ghost Moose. We have so many parasites attached to us, that we are at the point of no return. We have succumed to our welfare recipients, our ungrateful foreign aid recipients, our pension hogs, our illegal aliens, our crooked politicians, our failed military exercises, our bailed out bankers, our willingness to bail out Europe, and so many more. One of these parasitic classes is not enough in itself to bring the country to its knees - but the sheer number of parasites feeding off of our once great country is unsustainable...and has led us down the path of ruin.

So many parasites sucking the life blood our of what was once America. America is the Ghost Moose...all that is left is for America to lay down and die. There ain't no fixing what is wrong with us - the time to do that was 20 years ago.

Interesting article attached....America must manage its decline....since America has been in a steady decline for a few decades now, it is probably a bit late to discuss managing our decline, as our decline has now become a free fall. so it is a tad late to manage our descent to the bottom of the toilet - it is now inevitable.

a few principles apply here, and are appropriate to any discussion about the decline of the once great country that was America:
- if you provide welfare to 50 million people, you should expect 75 million to demand welfare.
- if you open the borders and allow all the scumbags in that other countries don't want, expect the country to trend toward that scumbag direction, instead of some ridiculous concept about cultural enrichment. Ask Arizona about that.
- if you provide excess pensions to a widening group of entitled class, expect that entitled class to grow and demand more and bigger pensions.
- if you promote affirmative action, expect a failure on the highest order when the top office in the country goes to an affirmative action candidate that had never succeeded on any level.

I could go on - but I think you should see my point.

these principles are pretty much common sense. but, common sense has never been used in the strategic planning for this shithole that was once America.

America - kiss it goodbye.

October is half over...time does fly.
no link today... I saw a few yesterday that bear my ranting, but not in a mood to go back and find them. the usual b.s. - pension mess, budget mess, over taxation. I sound like every middle age person who has come to the realization that life is what it is. the rich stay rich and conspire to prevent any of us from getting rich. eff them.

well, that is today's thought. at least I have a job which allows me to pay taxes which allows society's parasites to continue to feed at the public trough.
